Funny. I own the same adapter. In the last few weeks, the light has started to flicker and today the air in that room began to smell like molten plastic. I took a quick look at the adapter and it looked almost like yours - the left wire contact was completely molten away. And then a quick Google search led me to this blog :)Apparently it's a general problem of this model.
